నా జీవన గమనంలో…!-4.2

జీవన గమనంలో ఆంధ్రా బ్యాంకులో ఉద్యోగపర్వంలో తాను చవిచూసిన సంతోషాలు… దుఃఖాలు…; సుఖాలు…, కష్టాలు…; ఆశలు…, నిరాశలు…; సన్మానాలు…, అవమానాలను… ఒక్కొక్కటిగా నెమరు వేసుకుంటూ సంచిక పాఠకులకు అందిస్తున్నారు తోట సాంబశివరావు.

ఆ రోజు సెప్టెంబరు 30. సిబ్బందికి ఆ నెల జీతం ఇచ్చే రోజు. ఆదివారం శలవు, సోమవారం అక్టోబరు 2 గాంధీ జయంతి శలవు. శనివారం రోజు రాత్రికి బయలుదేరి ఊరికెళ్తే, తిరిగి మంగళవారం ఉదయం రావచ్చు. మొదటి నెల జీతం తీసుకొని, ఇంటికెళ్ళి… అమ్మా నాన్నలకు ఇవ్వచ్చు. అప్పుడు వాళ్ళ ముఖాల్లో ఆనందం చూడవచ్చు – అనుకుంటూ, ఆ రోజు ఊరికెళ్ళే సంతోషంలో హుషారుగా పని చేశాను.

ప్రతి ఒక్కరి నెల జీతం వారి వారి సేవింగ్సు ఖాతాలో జమచేయడం జరిగింది. నాకు నెల జీతం 367/-రూపాయలు (అక్షరాల మూడు వందల అరవై ఏడు రూపాయలు). కాని ఆ నెలలో నేను పని చేసింది కేవలం 17 రోజులు మాత్రమే, అందుకు గాను నా ఖాతాలో 208/-రూపాయలు (అక్షరాలా రెండు వందల ఎనిమిది రూపాయలు) జమ చేయబడ్డాయి.

ఉద్యోగంలో చేరిన మొదటి నెల జీతం కాబట్టి… మొత్తంగా అంటే… రూ. 208/-లకు విత్‍డ్రాయల్ ఫారం వ్రాశాను. సాయంత్రం హెడ్ క్యాషియర్ గారు ప్రతి ఒక్కరి దగ్గరకు వచ్చి, వారు విత్‌డ్రా చేయాలనుకున్న ఎమౌంట్‍ను ఓ కవర్లో పెట్టి, పైన పేరు వ్రాసి అందించారు. అలాగే నా చేతికి కవరు ఇచ్చారు. అప్పుడు నాకు కలిగిన ఆనందం… అంతా ఇంతా కాదు… మాటలలో వర్ణించలేను. ఎందుకంటే అది నా మొట్టమొదటి జీతం. నా కష్టార్జితం. స్వయం సంపాదన. చాలా తృప్తిగా అనిపించింది.

కవరు తెరిచి చూశాను. అన్నీ కొత్త నోట్లు. ఒకట్లు, రెండ్లు, ఐదులు, పదులు… వున్నాయి. వాటిని చూస్తే కళ్ళు జిగేలుమన్నాయి!… ఒక్క చోట అన్ని కొత్త నోట్లను చూడ్డం అదే మొదటిసారి. వాటిని తిరిగి కవర్‍లోనే వుంచి ఆ కవర్‍ను జాగ్రత్తగా దాచుకున్నాను.

అప్పుడే తెలిసింది – ప్రతి నెలా జీతం ఇచ్చే రోజు అందరికీ అన్ని డినామినేషన్లలో, కొత్త నోట్లు…. పువ్వుల్లో పెట్టి ఇవ్వకపోయినా, కవర్లలో పెట్టిస్తారట! అందుకోసం ఒక్క రోజు ముందే మా బ్యాంకుకు రెమిటింగ్ బ్యాంకైన స్టేట్ బ్యాంక్ ఆఫ్ ఇండియాకు, మా హెడ్ క్యాషియర్ గారే స్వయంగా వెళ్ళి అందరికీ సరిపడా కొత్త నోట్లు తెస్తారట! ఎంతో సంతోషం అనిపించింది నాకు…!

రెండు రోజుల కొకటి చొప్పున, డ్రాఫ్ట్స్ కౌంటరు, సేవింగ్స్ బ్యాంకు కౌంటరు, కరెంట్ ఎకౌంట్స్ కౌంటరు, బిల్స్ కౌంటరు, ఫిక్స్‌డ్/రికరింగ్ డిపాజిట్లు, వాటిపై లోన్‍ల కౌంటరు, గోల్డ్ లోనులు/ఇతర లోన్ల కౌంటర్లలో శిక్షణ పూర్తయ్యింది. మరో రెండు కౌంటర్లు… అంటే… డిస్పాచ్ కౌంటరు, క్యాష్ కౌంటర్లు మాత్రమే మిగిలి ఉన్నాయి.

ఆ రాత్రికే ఇంటికి బయలుదేరాను. నడిరాత్రి తరువాత ఇంటికి చేరాను.

ఉదయాన్నే లేచి, తయారై, పూజ గదిలో… నా జీతం తాలూకూ కవరుని, దేవుడి ముందు పెట్టి పూజ చేసుకున్నాను. పూజ ముగించుకుని, ఆ కవరు తీసుకొని, బయటికొచ్చి, అమ్మానాన్నలను పిలిచాను.

“అమ్మా! ఇది నా మొట్టమొదటి జీతం! తీసుకొమ్మా!” అంటూ ఆ కవర్‍ని అమ్మ చేతిలో పెట్టబోయాను. తీసుకునేందుకు సున్నితంగా తిరస్కరించిన అమ్మ,

“చూడు నాయనా! మన ఇంటికి పెద్దలు నాయనమ్మ, తాతలు. నాయనమ్మ చేతికిచ్చి, వాళ్ళ ఆశీర్వాదాలు తీసుకో!” అని సలహా ఇచ్చింది.

అప్పుడే నాయనమ్మ, తాతలు అక్కడకు చేరుకున్నారు. నాయనమ్మ చేతిలో ఆ కవరును పెట్టాను.

“ఏంటి నాయనా ఇది?” అంటూ ఆశ్చర్యంగా అడిగింది.

“ఇది నా మొట్టమొదటి నెల జీతం నాయనమ్మా… నన్నాశీర్వదించండి!” అంటూ నాయనమ్మ, తాతలకు పాదాభివందనం చేశాను.

“చాలా సంతోషం నాయనా… ఈ కవరుని మీ అమ్మ చేతికివ్వు” అంటూ కవరును తిరిగి నాకే ఇస్తూ…

“చూడయ్యా! నీకు ఉద్యోగం వస్తే, గుళ్ళో ఇత్తడి మరచెంబు ఇస్తానని మొక్కుకున్నాను. ఒకటి కొనివ్వు నాయనా!” అడిగింది నాయనమ్మ.

“తప్పకుండా కొని తెస్తాను!” అని చెప్పి కవరును అమ్మ చేతిలో ఉంచి, అమ్మానాన్నల ఆశీర్వాదం తీసుకున్నాను. తమ్ముళ్ళు, చెల్లెళ్ళూ, ఇదంతా చూస్తూ నవ్వుతూ నిల్చున్నారు.

వాళ్ళందరి ముఖాల్లో ఆనందాల వెలుగులు కళ్ళారా చూశాను. మా అబ్బాయి ప్రయోజకుడయ్యాడనే… తృప్తితో వాళ్ళ మనసులు సంతోషాలతో నిండాయనిపించింది.

అమ్మ ఆ కవరును తిరిగి నా చేతికే ఇస్తూ… “నీకే ఖర్చులు చాలా వుంటాయి కదా! ఉంచుకోయ్యా! వీలు చూసుకుని ఓ సారి తిరుపతి, కాళహస్తి వెళ్ళిరాయ్యా!… ఆ వేంకటేశ్వరస్వామి, శివ పరమాత్ముని ఆశీస్సులు నీకు ఎల్లవేళలా ఉండాలయ్యా” అని చెప్పింది.

“అలాగే నమ్మా” అంటూ ఆ కవరు తీసుకున్నాను.

వెంటనే బజారు కెళ్ళి, ఓ ఇత్తడి మరచెంబు, స్వీట్లు, హాట్లు, పండ్లు కొనుక్కొచ్చాను.

ఆ మరచెంబును నాయనమ్మకిచ్చాను. అప్పుడు చూడాలి తన సంతోషాన్ని… తన మనవడు తన మొక్కును తీరుస్తున్నందుకు గర్వపడుతూ కళ్ళ నీళ్ళ పర్యంతం అయింది.

“ఆ దేవుడి దయ నీకు ఎల్లప్పుడూ ఉంటుందయ్యా!” అంటూ నా తల నిమిరింది, ఆప్యాయతతో నాయనమ్మ.

ఆ తరువాత, స్వీట్లను, హాట్లను, పండ్లను ఇంట్లో అందరికీ పంచిపెట్టాను. ఆ రోజంతా ఓ పండగ వాతావరణం నెలకొంది మా ఇంట్లో. సాయంత్రం మా ఫ్రెండ్స్‌కి చిన్న పార్టీ ఇచ్చాను. వాళ్ళంతా నన్ను పొగడ్తలతో ముంచెత్తారు. అలా ఆ రెండ్రోజులు నాలోని ఆనందోత్సాహాలు కట్టలు తెంచుకుని ప్రవహించాయి.

మూడో రోజు ఉదయం బయలుదేరి పది గంటలకు బ్యాంకుకు చేరుకున్నాను.

ఒక రోజు ఉదయమే అన్నా, వదినల ఇంటికెళ్ళి స్వీటు, హాటు ఇచ్చి వాళ్ళతో నా ఆనందాన్ని పంచుకున్నాను.

ఓ రెండ్రోజులు డిస్పాచ్ కౌంటర్‍లో పని చేసిన తరువాత, చివరిగా క్యాష్ కౌంటర్‍కి పంపించారు. మొత్తం మూడు క్యాష్ కౌంటర్లున్నాయి. ఒకదాంట్లో హెడ్ క్యాషియర్, రెండో దాంట్లో క్యాషియర్ ఉన్నారు. మూడోది స్పేర్ క్యాష్ కౌంటరు. ఆ మూడో కౌంటరులో నన్ను కూర్చోబెట్టారు.

హెడ్ క్యాషియర్… శ్రీ విన్నకోట కోటేశ్వరరావు గారు… చాలా సీనియర్. వయసులోనే కాదు, ప్రవర్తనలో కూడా పెద్దరికం కనబడుతుంది. మంచితనం కొట్టొచ్చినట్లు కనిపిస్తుంది.

“చూడు బాబూ! నువ్ క్యాష్ కౌంటర్‍లో మొదటిసారి పని చేస్తున్నావ్! మొదటిరోజు కొంచెం భయంగా వుంటుంది. ఆ తరువాత అలవాటు పడిపోతావు! ఈ రోజుకి చిన్న అమౌంట్‌ల లావాదావీలు మాత్రమే చేయి… అంటే ఐదువేల రూపాయల లోపు మాత్రమే…., తీసుకోవడం గాని, ఇవ్వడం గాని చేయి. అంతకంటే ఎక్కువ మొత్తం తాలూకూ కస్టమర్లను, మా వద్దకు పంపు! సరేనా?… ఏమైనా డౌట్స్ వస్తే మమ్మల్నడుగు! ఓ.కే.నా? జాగ్రత్త మరి!” అంటూ ధైర్యం చెప్పారు.

రోజంతటిలో రెండు మూడు సార్లు… “అంతా ఓ.కే. గదా! జాగ్రత్త! తేడా వస్తే ఇబ్బంది పడతావ్!” అంటూ హెచ్చరికలు చేస్తూ, చాలా సహాయకారిగా ఉన్నారు.

క్యాష్ కౌంటర్‍లో రెండో రోజు సీనియర్లతో సమానంగా చిన్నా, పెద్దా… మొత్తాలలో జమలు, చెల్లింపులు చేశాను. ఆ రోజు క్యాష్ కౌంటర్ క్లోజ్ చేసేముందు, హెడ్ క్యాషియర్ గారు “వెరీ గుడ్! చాలా బాగా చేశావ్! తొందరగానే పికప్ చేశావ్! సంతోషం!” అని నన్ను మెచ్చుకున్నారు.

“అంతా మీ గైడెన్స్ వల్లే చేయగలిగాను. చాలా థాంక్సండి!” అన్నాను కృతజ్ఞతా పూర్వకంగా.

“పరవాలేదులే!… అయినా నీ పనితనం కూడా తక్కువేం కాదులే!” అని ముక్తాయించారు హెడ్ క్యాషియర్ గారు.

క్యాష్ కౌంటర్‌లో నాకు లభించినంత సపోర్టు ఇతర కౌంటర్లలో పనిచేసేటప్పుడు ప్రక్కవాళ్ళ నుండి లభించలేదు. క్యాష్ కౌంటర్‍లో అయితే… డబ్బులతో పని కదా! తేడా వస్తే ఇబ్బందే కదా! అందుకే అన్ని జాగ్రత్తలు చెప్పారు. బహుశా ప్రక్క కౌంటర్లో వున్నవాళ్ళు, వాళ్ళ వాళ్ళ పనిలో బిజీ బిజీగా వుండడం కారణం కావచ్చు, నా కంతగా సహాయపడకపోవడానికి.

అలాంటప్పుడు, అక్కడ పని చేస్తున్న ప్యూన్‌లు, డఫ్తరీ (హెడ్ ప్యూన్) చాలా హెల్పింగ్‌గా వున్నారు. వాళ్ళంతా బాగా సీనియర్లే. బ్యాంకులో పది, పదిహేను సంవత్సరాల నుండి పని చేస్తున్నవాళ్ళే! వాళ్ళే… నా ప్రక్కగా వెళ్తున్న ప్రతిసారీ… “ఏం బాబూ!… అంతా ఓ.కే.నా” అని అడుగుతున్నారు. బ్యాంకులో వాళ్ళకి తెలియని పనిగాని, వాళ్ళు చేయలేని పని గాని వుండదు. గుమాస్తాలకు ఏ మాత్రం తీసిపోరు. వాళ్ళే… నా డౌట్స్‌ని క్లియర్ చేస్తూ సహాయపడ్డారు.

ఇక్కడ డఫ్తరీ గురించి ఓ విషయం చెప్పుకోవాలి. వారి పేరు శ్రీ సోమయ్య గారు. వయసులో పెద్దే, మంచి కలుపుగోలు మనిషి, చతురుడు…

నా దగ్గరొకొచ్చినప్పుడల్లా “ఏంటల్లుడూ! ఎలా వుంది కౌంటరు వర్కు…? ఏవైనా ఇబ్బంది వుంటే చెప్తుండు… సహాయం చేస్తా!” అంటూ సరదాగా పలకరిస్తూంటాడు. ఎంత క్లిష్ట సమయంలోనైనా, ఆప్యాయతతో కూడిన ఆయన మాటలకు మనసు తేలిక పడేది.

ఓసారి అడిగాను… “ఏంటండీ! వచ్చిందగ్గర్నుండి చూస్తున్నాను. నన్ను… అల్లుడూ… అల్లుడూ… అని పిలుస్తున్నారు… మరి నేను కూడా మిమ్మల్ని… మామా… అని పిలవచ్చా!”

“ఓ! బ్రహ్మాండంగా పిలువు అల్లుడూ!”

“ఓ.కే. మామా!” అంటూ నా సంతోషాన్ని వ్యక్తపరిచాను. తను ముసిముసిగా నవ్వాడు.

అప్పటి నుంచి ఆయన నన్ను ‘అల్లుడూ’ అని, నేను తనని ‘మామా’ అని పిలవడం పరిపాటైంది.

ఇంకో విషయం ఏంటంటే, అన్ని కౌంటర్లలో కంటే, సేవింగ్సు అకౌంట్స్, కరెంట్ అకౌంట్స్ కౌంటర్లలో పని చేసేటప్పుడు, కొంచెం శారీరక శ్రమ కూడా ఎక్కువనిపించింది. ఎందుకంటే… అక్కడున్న లెడ్జర్లు… ఒక్కోటి 4 నుండి 5,6 కేజీల బరువుంటాయి. ప్రతీ లావాదేవీకి, ఆ సంబంధిత లెడ్జరును తీస్తూ… పోస్టింగ్ వేసి, ప్యూన్ తీసుకువెళ్ళడానికి అనువుగా ప్రక్కనే ఉన్న చిన్న స్టూల్ పై పెట్టాలి. రోజులో సుమారు 60 సార్లు పైనే ఆ లెడ్జర్లను మోయాల్సి వచ్చేది. ఒక్కోరోజు సాయంత్రానికి చేతులు బాగా నొప్పుట్టేవి కూడా.

ఎలాగైతేనేం,… అన్ని కౌంటర్‌లలో, శిక్షణ విజయవంతంగా పూర్తయింది. తరువాత గోల్డ్ లోనులు/ఇతర లోన్ల కౌంటర్‍లో పని చేస్తున్న క్లర్కుకి సహాయపడుతూ, అన్ని లోన్లతో పాటు, వ్యవసాయ ఋణాల గురించి కూడా చూసుకోమన్నారు. చేతి నిండా పని దొరికింది.

ఎవరైనా శలవుపై వెళితే, ఆ కౌంటర్‍లో కూర్చుని పని చేయమనేవారు.

ఇక ప్రొద్దున్నా, సాయంత్రం… అదనపు గంటలు, రాత్రి పొద్దుపోయేవరకు పెండింగ్ పనులు చేయడం… మామూలే!

Today I read sri thota sambasivarao story about his first bank job experiences.
Wholeheartedly thankful 🙏to him for his memory. Many of them of public sector employees telling that we have no memory of old years. But he is nice to narrate his good memory to our readers.
I hope he may continue his literary journey in future also.

Every moment in life is precious.
Relationships keep everyone happy and connected.
Doing routine job appears boring, but it fetch lot of satisfaction when you are in service industry.
You can feel the same in every pensioner eyes, a borrower who builds house with bank loan,etc…
It’s admiring for a customer when you are a custodian of big cash bundles.
Only a banker can understand any rules laid than any other job holders.
Everyone feels the value of time in bank in queue.
Very clear and interesting.
I feel the responsibility to respect elders and youngsters.

Very nice sir. Even my daftery name was sri Sammaiah. He was also very active and very supportive. When I was pulling and putting ledgers on accountant table he used to help me a lot. He used to order ginger tea and while I was enjoying my tea he used to issue tokens. Those time is a memorable one and sweet to remember for ever. They were all aged but given complete respect at the same time jokingly telling customers that our murthy sir is for marriage. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Just now completed reading while sipping the tea. Reading completed but tea became cold. Forgotten the surroundings also. It is a great feeling the dialogue delivery of ammamma , tataiah , trying to recollect the way they used to talk at that time, just imagining. Superb mamaiah…
