My Land

[A poem by Mr. Nanduri Ramachandra Rao titled ‘My Land’.]

Words fail to paint its unique beauty
Hues unimaginable ever on duty –

The heights of Himalayas in North
The vast deep seas down South
East spread over for the warmth of Sun
West ghats desert and a coast Konkan –

Plains and rivers in life intertwined
Cultures so different yet intertwined
Tongues and dialects many to astonish
A nation one, as differences diminish –

Devote bathe in rivers ‘ere the Sun
Mornings vibrate with Aums and Azans
Mornings smell sweet earth watered
Evening children’s play shouts heard –

Where else half sari clad please the eye
Where else long plaits catches the eye
Where else shy rosy cheeks melt the eye
Where else godly grace meets the eye –

A billion plus differ digress and be one
A billion plus make the markets lean on
A billion plus fists together will face one
A billion plus wants peace take us on
