The Hero

[A poem by Mr. Samudrala Harikrishna titled ‘The Hero’.]

Got him by the scruff of his Neck
He thought, emotions running amuck
The ungrateful, ought to get his Due
Shall never let my resolve go askew!

The sword was pressed to his Nape
The moment seemed eternal, No Hope
The vanquished, forlorn, had no missive
The horseman stared on at his Captive!

Like a shiny pearl cosy within an Oyster
Like a pointed rapier in a voguish Holder
Like a blooming lotus in a serene Pond
A strange thought sparkled in his Mind!

What about that sword which spares
What about that dagger which soothes
What about that spear with care to Show
What about that Hero, letting go his Foe?!

Hilltops the two raced to, laughing merrily
Upstreams they swam across, valiantly
Steeds the two loved & dared to harness
Slides of the past, cooled his mindspace!

It’s the time of happiness Unalloyed
It’s the phase of joys Unparalleled
It’s the stage where no fear was Known
It’s adolescence, this tenderness was Sown!

The Hero withdrew the dazzling Sword
Gazed into his eyes, uttering not a Word
He loosened his grip and galloped away
The captive, now free, having nothing to say!
