[A poem by Mani garu titled ‘Pretensions’.]
The way is dark..
I hold the lantern to light up the way for you,
to find me.
In my eagerness to meet you,
Little do I remember that you are the light yourself.
I know that you like music.
I open my yearning heart,
to sing a song of love with
beautiful words of immense meaning,
to please you and win you
But how do I forget that
It is the soundless songs of silence, you love..
I have made sandalwood paste to anoint you,
Gathered flowers to adore you,
I burnt incense for having pleasantries with you,
Unmindful of you having no form.
I tend to protect you from all vagaries,
Little do I care to remind me that you are invincible.
The long wait has made My heart ache,
and run for you to the temple,
Not minding that you are
omniscient..
I relentlessly continue the facade
of looking for you everywhere,
consciously avoiding to look in
myself.
Deep in my heart, I know I have
to drop all the pretensions,
once I find you in me.
