The Best Prayer

[A write-up by Mr. Bh. V. Nageswar Rao titled ‘The Best Prayer’.]

Everyone should pray God for the fulfillment of these three desires.
These desires can only be fulfilled by the grace of God. The wealth that we possess or the official position we hold cannot help us fulfill these desires. The fulfillment of these desires solely rests in God’s grace.
The prayer is –
अनायासेन मरणं विना दैन्येन जीवनम्.
देहान्ते तव सायुज्यं देहि मे परमेश्वर॥
O Supreme Lord, grant me a painless death, a life without helplessness, and union with You at the end of this body.
The first desire is: अनायासेन मरणं painless death
Many people undergo a miserable period of life before meeting death. But we should pray to God that our death should be painless. We should not undergo suffering or prolonged hospital treatment.
The second desire is: विना दैन्येन जीवनम् an independent life till the very end.
Till the last second of our life, we should be able to do our daily activities ourselves – like going to the toilet or urinal. We should not be bedridden. Being dependent on others for toilet is the most painful thing in life.
The third desire is: देहान्ते तव सायुज्यं attain moksha and be relieved from repeated births and deaths
After meeting death, we should not take rebirth again. We should be forever free from the cycle of repeated births and deaths. We should attain the abode of God permanently.
So these are the three things that we should always pray to God for.
